Marie Carbo |
A nationally known award-winning researcher, Dr. Marie Carbo is founder and executive director of the National Reading Styles Institute (NRSI). NRSI has empowered tens of thousands of educators across the country to greatly improve reading instruction through its on-site training, videos, conferences, seminars, interactive Website, and model schools. Dr. Carbo has keynoted many national conferences as well as the National Reading Styles Conference. She has served as consultant, nationally and internationally, for the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), Phi Delta Kappa, the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), state education departments, universities, school districts, and corporations. Dr. Carbo served on ASCD's Improving Student Achievement Advisory Board and ASCD's Urban Education Advisory Board. She received ASCD's first Outstanding Dissertation Award in Curriculum and Teaching for her doctoral thesis. A former classroom teacher and learning disabilities specialist, Dr. Carbo has published over 100 articles, booklets, and skill books, and written three ground-breaking books: Teaching Students to Read Through Their Individual Learning Styles (with Rita and Kenneth Dunn), What Every Principal Should Know About Teaching Reading, and How to Record Books for Maximum Reading Gains. Dr. Carbo originated the concept of Reading Styles, created the Reading Style Inventory®, and developed the Carbo Recorded-Book® Method.
