Carbo Recorded Books in the Home

What is the Carbo Recorded Book® Method?
Dr. Marie Carbo created a remarkable technique for helping emergent and/or struggling readers 25 years ago called the Carbo Method. Passages of text are recorded with a slightly slowed pace, chunked phrases, and careful enunciation that actually helps children learn to read. Students have demonstrated dramatic progress in reading after just weeks of using the Carbo Method in school. Read more.

Using Carbo Recorded Books at Home
Carbo books are ideal for use in the home. They allow your child to work at his or her own pace. You will need to listen to your child read passages of the book back to you at times, but that will be enjoyable and rewarding for both of you because you will see and compliment your child's reading progress!

Carbo Recorded Books differ from the "Read Along" recorded books available in many bookstores. The "read alongs" are also enjoyable, but they are not generally as helpful for teaching reading, especially for struggling readers, because they are read at a fast pace, in large amounts, and generally include background songs and sound effects that can distract readers.

NRSI has over 200 excellent children’s books recorded and available for sale. They cover many age ranges and interests. A Carbo Recorded-Book kit includes a copy of the book with anywhere from one to eight audiocassettes, each containing short portions of the text. Also included is a short guide on using the recordings.

A profoundly effective product available is our Power Reading Program! Find out for yourself just how helpful the Power Reading Program can be for your child!
