RSI® Administration Directions - Grade 2-Adult
Print this page

General Information
Most students in grades 2-12 take the RSI on computer in about 15-35 minutes, depending on the maturity of the student. The RSI is not a timed test and may be read to students. (The computer version has an audio option.)

Before Administering the RSI
It is advisable to discuss with students some of the concepts presented on the RSI, such as preferences for reading with or without background music or bright light. See video on preparing students for the RSI.

Students Taking the RSI on Computer
Students should select answers that are closest to their own preferences and strengths and should not discuss their RSI selections among themselves. Teachers and assistants may answer students’ questions briefly.

Students answer RSI items consecutively and may go back to change an answer. Use the audio option if a student can’t read the items easily. Students can stop taking the RSI at any point and then begin again in that same place.

Scoring the RSI
When the student finishes the RSI (in one or more sittings), the teacher scores the answers and prints the RSI profiles and reports.

When students work directly in an RSI booklet or on paper, their answers need to be entered into the program so that their RSI can be scored.

Administering the RSI to Groups
Most students in grade 2-Adult take the RSI on computer. To administer the RSI to a group, print the teacher’s manual and an RSI booklet for each student. See video. (For grade 2, follow the directions listed for grade 1).
