Dr. Carbo is founder and executive director of the National Reading Styles Institute. The Carbo Reading Styles Program was one of a handful of programs selected as a research-based language arts program by the: Northwest Regional Laboratory (funded by the U. S. Dept. of Education), the Education Commission of the United States, the NEA, and the National Staff Development Council.

A former classroom teacher and learning disabilities specialist, Marie Carbo has had over 100 articles published in major educational journals, including: The Reading Teacher, Teaching Exceptional Children, Theory Into Practice, American School Board Journal, Remedial and Special Education, Phi Delta Kappan, Educational Leadership, Education Digest, The School Administrator, Instructor, Learning, Creative Classroom, and Teaching K/8. Dr. Carbo has written three ground-breaking books: Teaching Students to Read Through Their Individual Learning Styles (with the Dunns), How to Record Books for Maximum Reading Gains, and What Every Principal Should Know About Teaching Reading. She is beginning a series of books for Corwin Press.

Barbara has been a classroom teacher (and a District Teacher of the Year), a reading/language arts coordinator, and a Reading Styles facilitator. She has been instrumental in the development of a host of successful Reading Styles Model Schools.

Linda Queiruga combines her masterful teaching talent and wide experience with enormous enthusiasm and energy. Linda became the first teacher in th U.S. whose students achieved a remarkable two-year gain in reading comprehension in only four months using Carbo Reading Styles Program.

She accomplished this feat with tenth-grade special education students. Since then, Linda has helped thousands of teachers K-12 to connect children with learning.
